information
The
horses
We ride on a Swedish breed of cold bloods called the North Swedish Horse
(Nordsvensk). It is a tough all-around horse that loves to work. It is
just as well-suited for the baroque riding style as for ploughing fields
and dragging timberlogs. It is an athletic, hard-working horse which,
with its long mane and tail, looks like an image taken from an old, Nordic
saga. They are superb in forestriding, with their surefooted stength.
Our horses are all well-mannered, well trained and very secure. On our
seven day tours, participants will get the chance to learn how to use
the horses for pulling timber logs.
We train our horses using the Natural Horsemanship method that we learnt
from Swedish Stefan Forsman and Antti Walnestedt. Not to forget the endless
ours of experience we have ourselves. We mainly use saddles from the Swedish
Cavalry but we also have some Western and McLellan saddles. Instead of
a bridle, we use a side-pull - a mix of halter and hackamore. For our
way of riding, long Western reins have proven to be excellent.
The riding
We usually ride 4 - 7 hours per day. If somebody wants to ride in the
arena in the evening it is certainly possible, but then with a different
horse from the one used during the day.
The riding here is mostly seat-controlled with focus and long reins. Our
guests usually ride differently at home, but those who try to ride our
horses the way they have been trained, will experience a new way of riding.
Something they may want to try also at home.
We supply approved riding helmets, short chaps and rain ponchos.
Experience
needed for riders
On fixed departures our guests must be able to stay in the saddle in all
paces, walk, trot, canter and gallop. In a tailored special group-booking,
it is the group itself that decides the pace. We do not ride harder than
the least experienced participant in the group can handle.
Weight limit 110 kilos (240 pounds).
Experience needed for Multi-adventures
Beginners are welcome to our adventure tours. You will be OK as long as
your overall physical condition is average to good. No prior knowledge
is needed. We give thorough instructions for all modes of transport.
We supply life jackets, bicycle helmets, rain ponchos and riding helmets.
Participants
On scheduled tours our age limit is 18 years (15 years if accompanied
by tutor)
Insurance
All our operations are insured and are insured in accordance with the
Travel Guarantees Act. All participants on our tours must have insurance
and personal accident coverage.
Nature and wildlife
Our farm is situated in a hilly region with vast pine forests, many lakes
and winding streams. The area is not densely populated. Whole days in
the saddle may pass witout us seeing even one other human being. There
is plenty of wildlife in the area, like moose, dear, lynx, wild boar,
eagles and owls. There are always some animals who cross our trails during
the rides and tours.
The Sagas
Since the beginning of time when people started populating these forests,
man and troll have lived side by side. There are many tales and stories
of these our neighbours here. We cannot guarantee we will meet them, but
for safety's sake we inform all guests on how to behave politely and securely
in case of a close encounter.
Accommodation
Our accomodations are in a small, recently renovated, old timber cottage.
We have two 2-bed rooms and one 3-bed room, and all three are ensuite.
Meals are served in the farm house pub that also includes common quarters
for relaxation.
When we stay overnight in tepees, we provide sleeping mattresses and high
quality, warm sleeping bags.
We serve dishes from local Swedish ingredients with a twist. We use game
from the forests and fish from the lakes and anything else the forests,
waters and fields have to offer. All tours (except self-catering tours)
include full pension. Beer and wine are available at cost during the meals.
We appreciate if you give us two weeks notice in case you have any special
dietary needs we need to know about.
Laughter
We have a lot of fun together with our guests. Is there any bigger joy
than to meet horse people from around the world, riding during days and
hanging around lying
sorry, telling tales and stories in the evening?
Entertainment
Kalvefall is way out in the forest so there isn't a lot of trendy night
life happening around here, except for our pub. But if you like long moments
in the silence of the woods, and the occasional swim in a forest stream,
then you have come to the right place.
Massage
Massage by licensed masseur is available as an extra option at cost.
